Liam Cooper and Barry Douglas react to Leeds Under-23s securing promotion
It’s been a superb first season back in the Premier League for Leeds United, something which has been mirrored by the success of the Under-23s side.
Marcelo Bielsa’s senior team are grabbing the headlines for their impact in the top flight, and they currently sit 10th in the league table. But on Friday evening it was the club’s youth team that were the headline act.
Leeds’ Under-23s team won 2-1 away to Aston Villa last night.
It means that Mark Jackson’s side were crowned champions of the Premier League 2 Division Two. Additionally, they’ve earned promotion to Premier League 2 Division One for next season.
The Whites have an incredible young age group that have been phenomenal, winning 17 of their 22 league games so far this season.
Sam Greenwood and Jack Jenkins were the Leeds goalscorers in the decisive victory over Villa, but they are just some of the numerous rising stars that may be future first-team players at Elland Road.
Club captain Liam Cooper sent a congratulations message to the Leeds Under-23s after their success. There was also a reaction from loaned-out Leeds defender Barry Douglas.
Get to see how hard these lads work everyday and I’m delighted to see them rewarded. The future is bright! Well done to jacko, the staff and all the lads. 🙌🏼

TBR’s View:
Leeds clearly have a talented croup of young players on their books, who first-team manager Marcelo Bielsa will be well aware of.
It’s so important for the Under-23s stars to know there is a genuine path into the senior squad, and if they’re good enough they’ll be promotion.
Leeds have romped to the title playing the same high intensity style of football implemented by the first team, so any transition between the age groups is not a total shock to the system.
