Former Celtic winger Lewis Morgan has praised the Scottish champions for how they made him feel included at the club despite his struggles but admits he is now over the moon to be playing regular football again.
Celtic signed the talented wideman from St Mirren in 2018 for a reported £300,000 with hopes he would become a future first-team star at Parkhead.
Unfortunately, he never quite proved himself at Celtic and struggled to play regular football.
In the end, he found himself loaned out to Sunderland in January 2019 and a year later he left Celtic permanently, joining David Beckham’s Inter Miami.
Now playing regularly again, Morgan has admitted he is happy to finally be back playing first-team football.
“The club did a great job of making everyone feel part of things at Celtic,” Morgan
“But it maybe took me to come to America to realise how much football I’ve missed and how much I missed playing every week.
“It kind of opened my eyes to that.
“I left Celtic because I wanted to play more. I’m just enjoying being out on the field every game. This is what it’s all about.”
Morgan is right to be relishing his football at present. The 24-year-old has been in fine form since heading to Major League Soccer, scoring five goals and providing three assists in 16 MLS appearances.
But it is great to see that Morgan holds no bitterness toward Celtic and that he was clearly still made to feel valued by the club even when he was out of the first-team picture.
Celtic fans will appreciate that and none are likely to begrudge him any future success.
