Lewis Cook is desperate to see Leeds United gain promotion to the Premier League

that he is keen to see Leeds United gain promotion to the Premier League, and the Bournemouth ace wants his old side to do it by playing the remaining fixtures and winning it in their own right.

Plenty of talk has been had over how the current campaign will finish. With nine games to play in the Championship, Leeds are sitting pretty with 71 points from 37 games at the top of the table. West Brom are in second on 70, while Fulham are in third.

The crucial point is that Leeds are seven ahead of Fulham, and with just a handful of games to go – Leeds fans are dreaming of promotion and a return to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years.

Cook, who swapped Leeds for the Premier League with Bournemouth in the summer of 2016 in a £7million () move, is desperate to see his boyhood club return to the top tier – and do it themselves, rather than have a 22-team league.

“I think that’s where they belong – in the Premier League,” . “I don’t know if they would want to go up that way (with a 22-team league).

“I think they would want to play the rest of the season and go up as champions probably – because they were on course to do that. I would be happy for Leeds to be in the Premier League but we will see what happens.”

TBR’s view – Should Leeds lure Cook back to Elland Road this summer?

Clocking up 85 appearances for Leeds as a teenager, Cook’s move to a Premier League side was inevitable. Certainly, his efforts in the top flight have been somewhat hit and miss – ranging from an England cap, to rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.

Leeds need a permanent partner alongside Mateusz Klich. Adam Forshaw is injury prone, Tyler Roberts is a striker and Pablo Hernandez is better as a winger. Cook is on the fringes of the Bournemouth squad, and Leeds should try to lure him back.
