Lewis Cook finally showing why Tottenham should be interested in £30m signature
This summer Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly interested in signing Lewis Cook from Bournemouth. The England international had impressed for the Cherries after finally getting over a niggling injury problem.
suggested that Spurs were willing to pay around £30 million for the player’s services.
Considering he was the captain of the Under-20 World Cup winning side and had recently been in the running for the senior World Cup squad, such interest made sense.
However, at the start of this season, some Tottenham fans will have wondered if the interest was worthy.
Cook did not start the season in Bournemouth’s starting XI. The arrival of Mario Lerma made life difficult for Cook, with Andrew Surman also in good form. It meant he did not start the opening six games of this season.
However, he is now showing why Tottenham were keen and why they should remain to be.
After a shocking 4-0 loss to Burnley, Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe made some changes. One of those saw Cook taking the place of Surman in the heart of midfield.
The impact has been instant. Cook was brilliant in a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace before again orchestrating things in the impressive 4-0 away win at Watford.
In fact, including EFL Cup games, Cook has started four games for the Cherries this season. They have won all four.
With Tottenham looking for a long-term successor to Mousa Dembele in midfield Cook would be a shrewd piece of business if he can keep up his current form. If Tottenham could do a deal for less than £30 million? Then it seems a likely avenue to explore.
