Steven Gerrard heaped praise on Aston Villa youngster Jacob Ramsey after his side’s 3-3 draw against Leeds United last night.

The visitors went in front after just nine minutes thanks to a well-taken goal from Dan James. The Welshman almost doubled their lead a few moments later, but his fierce strike only cannoned off the crossbar.

Philippe Coutinho brought Villa back into the game with a good goal of his own, before setting up Ramsey twice to push his side to a 3-1 lead.

Gerrard’s men blew that two-goal cushion and only ended up with a point, but the Villa boss was absolutely delighted with how well Ramsey played last night.

Gerrard: Jacob Ramsey will be a terrific player

The legendary Englishman said after the game, as per : “He’s not following in anyone’s footsteps. Jacob Ramsey is Jacob Ramsey.

“He will be a terrific player. It won’t be long before the whole country is watching him I’m sure.

“He is right up there let me tell you.”

Ramsey is an outstanding talent and he will go on to have a fine career, there’s no doubt about that.

The Englishman, still only 20 years old, already has five goals to his name in the Premier League this season. That is a fantastic record for someone so young, and if he carries this on, he will give Gareth Southgate something to think about ahead of the next international camp.

It will be interesting to see how Ramsey will fare as the pressure heats up in the business end of the season.

He certainly has the quality to perform at the highest level, but if he can manage the demands well, he will go on to be a top player for the Villans in the coming years.
