Leroy Sane and David Silva react as Manchester City confirmed as Premier League champions
Manchester City were confirmed as Premier League champions on Tuesday night as Manchester United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City at Old Trafford after fielding a much-changed side – and both Leroy Sane and David Silva have responded.
United had to at least draw to remain in with a chance of pipping Pep Guardiola’s side, but that would have to see the Premier League champions lose every one of their remaining three games – and 16-goal swing. Instead, there is a difference of 10 points.
But Leicester denied United from remaining in the hunt with a 2-1 away win, after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer controversially fielded 10 players. Luke Thomas opened the scoring, before Caglar Soyuncu netted the winner after Mason Greenwood’s equaliser.
City, then, were confirmed as Premier League champions. It sees them win a third Premier League title in the last four seasons, having won the 2017-18 and 2018-19 campaigns – while Guardiola now has 31 trophies, his 10th at City, and ninth league title.
Plenty took to social media to applaud City. Micah Richards was obviously very vocal, as were many former City players and other big names in the game. Among the furore, both Silva and Sane reacted on Twitter to the league win – congratulating City.
Congrats! Well deserved ! 🙌🏾💪🏾
