Leon Osman says one Liverpool player had a ‘big afternoon’ as they beat Chelsea at Anfield
Liverpool navigated their way through a big test against Chelsea today to come out 2-1 winners and remain top of the Premier League.
A penalty from Mo Salah and a winner from Curtis Jones settled proceedings as the Reds just about had enough to see off the Blues.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot went with a slightly different selection to normal and in the midfield, he opted to go with homegrown star Jones as one of his three in the middle.
That decision paid off as well, with Jones scoring and winning the penalty to ensure he had a real impact on the game.
And speaking about Jones, ex-Premier League ace Leon Osman lauded the Liverpool star for his performance.

Curtis Jones impresses as Liverpool beat Chelsea
Speaking about Jones on comms for the game, former Everton man Osman praised the impact the Liverpool man had on the game overall.
“He has had a great afternoon, he really has. He has affected the game. Every time you go onto the pitch, that’s the main thing you want to do. You want to affect it in a positive way,” Osman said.
“I mean, he will get a lot of plaudits for the penalty kick that he won and the goal that he scored, but just as important was the tackle he made in the first half to deny Cole Palmer a very easy opportunity to put Chelsea ahead. Big afternoon for him.”
Jones can be like a new signing for Liverpool
With Liverpool not spending big in the summer and not adding new signings barring Federico Chiesa, it really has left a good chance for Curtis Jones to stake his own claim.
Injuries have hindered his progress at Anfield at times but now, he looks fit and ready and showed today he can produce when it matters.
For Arne Slot, this will feel like getting a new signing in a way and if Jones can stay fit, he can have a big impact on the season for the Reds.
Consistency will be key for the England man, but on today’s evidence, it looks like Jones is getting back to his best.
