Leon Osman reacts on Twitter as midfielder Kieran Dowell leaves for Derby on loan

Everton have that talented midfielder Kieran Dowell has joined Derby County on loan for the coming season.

The Englishman is Phillip Cocu’s first signing as Rams manager, after the Dutchman replaced Frank Lampard in the wake of his move to Chelsea.

: “I am very happy that Kieran Dowell has chosen to join us on loan for the season. He is an exciting young player with a lot of potential, and I am looking forward to working with him.”

And while Dowell may have hoped to get into the Toffees’ midfield this season, Leon Osman, a man who knows a thing or two about what it takes to do exactly that took to Twitter to have his say on the switch.

He : “Brilliant move for all parties this one! Derby getting a very talented midfielder in Kieran Dowell – and Pride Park a top place to play football.”

The deal does look to work for all concerned, although Dowell must be wondering when he’ll get his chance in the Toffees’ first team.

Perhaps when the bloated ranks are trimmed and the likes of James McCarthy aren’t blocking the way, he’ll get his opportunity.

All Dowell can do for now is try and elevate his reputation at Pride Park like Harry Wilson and Mason Mount did last season – and Osman did when he had a loan spell at Derby back in 2004.
