Leif Davis sends emotional Instagram message to Leeds teammate Gaetano Berardi

Gaetano Berardi played his last game for Leeds United on Sunday as the Whites beat West Bromwich Albion in a 3-1 win at Elland Road, in which supporters returned to the ground for the first time – and Leif Davis has sent an emotional message to Berardi, posting a behind-the-scenes photo.

Berardi, 32, ends a seven-year stint at Elland Road this summer – having clocked up 157 appearances for the club during his time in Yorkshire. He only managed two games this season, having suffered an anterior cruciate ligament problem immediately after Leeds gained promotion last term.

Davis, 21, only managed four appearances for the senior side this season – having previously clocked up 10. But it is clear that one-time Switzerland internationasl Berardi has helped Davis behind the scenes and it must be said – the youngster’s form has dramatically improved for the Under-23’s.

The young English defender has a chance to break through at left-back with Berardi leaving and Gjanni Alioski set to see his contract expire in June. While Leeds could make a signing, Davis will be desperate to show that he is the man to be given more of a chance in what is a growing void.

Posting on Instagram on Tuesday, Davis thanked Berardi and posted a picture of himself and the ex-Sampdoria defender along with his newborn child in the Leeds changing room. He spoke of his admiration of Berardi, and was grateful for the help Berardi has given him behind the scenes.
