Leif Davis looks an absolute steal from Leeds United

If Leeds United fans did not believe before then they do now. A stunning 3-2 win over Aston Villa yesterday saw Leeds go top at Christmas. The manner of the win was even more impressive. After going 2-0 down it appeared this could be another West Brom-like result. Instead, Leeds pulled together and fought back in style.

It was not just the scoreline they had to overcome. Leeds’ long injury list continues to climb. Patrick Bamford has suffered a minor setback in his knee recovery. Meanwhile, Barry Douglas was taken ill during the warm-up.

With Tom Pearce and Stuart Dallas still injured, Leeds had to throw in young Leif Davis for his first ever Championship appearance.

Signed from Morecambe for an undisclosed fee this summer it appears that Leeds have picked up an absolute gem.

It is a sign of Leeds’ injury trouble to hear how Davis spoke of a potential debut in the future when he signed.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to sign, it is a privilege to be here and I can’t wait to get started…

“I’m a modern day attacking left back and I love getting forwards, my aim is to play in the first team one day and hopefully I can do well here and progress.”

It is unlikely he thought that moment would come this season.

Davis put in a fine display to have Leeds fans excited for his future.

Up against the dangerous Jonathan Kodjia and Ahmed Elmohamady, he showed no fear against to seasoned pros at this level. The performance belied the fact he is only 18 and making his first professional appearance, having never made his senior debut at Morecambe.

Whilst the fee was undisclosed, it could not have been a massive figure, and Leeds have clearly picked up a bargain.

Credit goes to the team at Morecambe, who have developed a brilliant little player. Whilst Leeds’ scouting department also deserves praise. Because Leeds United have themselves a brilliant future defender in this teenager.
