Leicester star says he really didn’t like what happened to Chelsea player during FA Cup tie

Conor Coady has issued his verdict on Raheem Sterling being booed by his own fans as Chelsea just about knocked Leicester City out of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have reached the semi-finals after a 4-2 win over the Championship promotion-chasers. However, it is hard to imagine many of Pochettino’s doubters will have been convinced by the Blues’ performance.

And much of the talk following the game concerned Raheem Sterling, with the forward coming in for some stick from his own fans.

Sterling missed a penalty – despite Cole Palmer being on the pitch – and took one of the worst free-kicks you will ever see. And the fans voiced their frustration when Mykhailo Mudryk was replaced before Sterling while the tie was in the balance.

Conor Coady was in the Leicester squad for the clash. And speaking on , he suggested that it was a little uncomfortable to see his international teammate receive criticism from his own fans.

“We heard it there and we’d seen it. At the time when it’s happening, you don’t really know what’s going on. I’ll be honest, from a football player’s point of view, I didn’t like it. It’s not something I enjoyed,” he said.

“I’m probably a little bit biased because I’m a friend of Raheem’s as well. But to hear that to any footballer is tough from your own set of supporters. What he’s done in his career, I think has been fantastic. I think he’s a brilliant, brilliant, brilliant footballer. So to hear that from your own set of supporters is really, really tough.”

Blues supporters have run out of patience

Unfortunately, Chelsea fans have had to deal with another painful campaign. There is no obvious identity emerging within their team. And were it not for the brilliance of Palmer, this season would have been much, much worse.

Rival fans will have little sympathy given the money that has been spent. But it must be infuriating to watch a team seemingly so ill-equipped for a title challenge after what has gone on in the last few transfer windows.

Ultimately, that resulted in frustration being taken out on Sterling at the weekend.

Supporters are entitled to vent their displeasure, but perhaps some may regret how they voiced their disappointment at the weekend.
