Leicester City or Arsenal: What should Jamie Vardy do?

What a time to be Jamie Vardy. He is now a Premier League winner, holds the record for the most consecutive Premier League games to score a goal and he is heading to his first international tournament for his country in excellent form.

Over the last week or so, despite the summer transfer window not yet being officially open, Vardy has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal. .

.

At the beginning of the week this deal looked to be all but done, but now it appears Vardy has stalled Arsenal, as he tries to weigh up whether to leave Leicester or go to a more traditional top team in the Premier League.

For next season, both Leicester and Arsenal have guaranteed Champions League football after finishing first and second in the league respectively, so Jamie Vardy has a big decision to make.

But the big question is, should he stay at Leicester or move to Arsenal?

It is a difficult decision and one that he must really listen to his heart for, because both teams make logical sense to the forward.

At Leicester, he has the chance to become a hero and live the dream of playing with the Foxes in the Champions League, something nobody thought would ever happen. He is a favourite among the fans, a guaranteed starter and is well bedded into the team.

However, with Arsenal he gets the chance to play for what is considered to be a top team and a relatively established force in Europe. Nobody knows how Leicester will do next season but Arsenal are always likely to provide Vardy with top level football after obtaining Champions League for countless years.

No club outside  England has been rumoured to make a move for the former Fleetwood Town striker, and if they did, this would not be a good move for Vardy as his blistering pace and devastating finishing mould perfectly with the current state of the Barclays Premier League.

Both Leicester and Arsenal would prove good matches for him as Arsenal are looking for a new striker as Olivier Giroud continues to frustrate fans. However, in my opinion he will be better off remaining at Leicester.

And there are three reasons for that.

The first is that after completing the fairytale of lifting the Premier League trophy and gaining Champions League, it would seem daft to move on to another club and not see out the fairytale. If all doesn’t go well for Leicester but Vardy continues to perform, he can still move on to another club then.

Secondly, the fans. Leicester fans love Vardy, and why wouldn’t they? But at Arsenal they tend to be less forgiving and have higher expectations. Despite Vardy’s quality, he isn’t the big name signing many Gunners supporters are looking for.

Lastly is the opportunity to play football. As mentioned above, Jamie Vardy is a guaranteed starter at Leicester and is their main man. However, at Arsenal, if he has a bad run he may lose his spot in the team, which would have a knock-on effect on his international career and there’s nothing to necessarily suggest that he will get a spot in the Arsene Wenger’s first XI.

The lure of a big team like Arsenal is hard to resist, but ultimately Jamie Vardy will be better off in the long run remaining with Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City.

It remains to be seen what he decides himself though.
