‘Legs like oak trees’… David Martindale is blown away by 25-year-old Celtic player’s physique
Celtic’s win over Livingston was one that was sorely needed by Brendan Rodgers and his team after suffering back-to-back losses in the Scottish Premiership recently.
Defeats to Kilmarnock and Hearts meant that the Parkhead’s comfortable eight-point lead at the top of the table was cut to two heading towards the Glasgow Derby next week and the Bhoys could ill-afford to drop any more points before that match.
The win left Livingston boss, David Martindale, feeling dejected and frustrated and for the second time this season, he praised a Celtic player in his post-match interview.
Martindale said [], “I was a wee bit worried about our left-hand side if I’m honest. Big Parksey going off, he started again fairly well.
“Just he’s understanding, he smells danger and he does the right things nine times out of ten. He obviously goes off with that shot that him in the face from Carter-Vickers.
“He’s probably the last one you want to be hit in the face with a shot off. He’s got legs like oak trees.”
Carter-Vickers is one finely tuned athlete. Strong and stocky, the Hoops defender is rarely beaten for strength in a challenge.
In fact, I can’t recall any time he has been outmuscled on the ball and that is down to his impressive physique.

The US defender has been a rock for Celtic and yesterday was his 100th game for the Hoops. Incredibly, Carter-Vickers has only tasted two domestic defeats since he joined Celtic two summers ago. []
Ironically, one was against Livingston in the 1-0 defeat at Almondvale is just his second appearance in the Hoops and the other was against Hearts last week.
Carter-Vickers will continue to be an important cog in Rodgers’ machine this season and his oak tree legs will be required if the Celtic manager hopes to keep his charge for the Scottish Premiership title on track.
