Leeds want to sign 30-year-old striker that Marcelo Bielsa eyed at Elland Road back in 2021

Leeds United are likely to be planning for possible signings ahead of a possible return to the Premier League and it is claimed that Michy Batshuayi is being considered by the Whites, on a free transfer.

Batshuayi, 30, has been in fine form over in Turkish football with Fenerbahce. The Belgium star has 20 goals for the 2023-24 campaign, laying on three assists in 34 games. But his contract expires in June.

Indeed, he has been at Fener since the summer of 2022 – scoring 40 goals in 66 games. That form is likely to attract plenty of suitors from all over Europe, given he is available on a free in the coming weeks.

It is not the first time that Leeds have shown interest in Batshuayi. In Marcelo Bielsa’s final season at the club, the Argentine was linked with luring Batshuayi to Leeds – a reunion, after combining at Marselle.

Now, a report from in Turkey claims Leeds are keen on bringing him to Elland Road. A move that would only be deemed feasible if Leeds manage to hold on to a place in the top two and get promoted.

Leeds want to sign Michy Batshuayi on a free transfer

Nevertheless, Leeds want to sign Batshuayi this summer with the striker available for nothing. Leeds do have options up top, but Patrick Bamford is in his thirties and Joel Piroe’s form has been up and down.

Georginio Rutter is better in the 10 role and while Mateo Joseph is showing plenty of quality, it might be that he is not relied upon to start week in, week out, just yet. A top-tier striker might be required.

Batshuayi never really got the chance to show that at Chelsea and on loan at Palace, he provided just glimpses. But his form in Turkey will have injected some confidence. Everton wanted him last summer.
