Leeds want ‘stunning’ £17m star Marcelo Bielsa once tried to sign, he could join Josh Sargent at Elland Road

Leeds United are currently considering a move for either Emiliano Buendia or Gustavo Hamer as they also look to recruit a striker this summer.

TBR Football understands that Leeds want to recruit a number 10 for the Premier League and their interest in Emiliano Buendia has resurfaced once again.

After returning from a serious injury last season, Buendia spent the second half of the campaign playing under Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen where he scored twice in 11 Bundesliga games.

And in terms of Leeds’ interest in Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer, the 27-year-old was playing much closer to home, a player who was doing his best to inspire Premier League promotion elsewhere.

But in what could be a busy summer for Leeds, they are also on the hunt for a number nine who can make a difference back in the top-flight.

Leeds might replace Brendan Aaronson with Emi Buendia

That being said, TBR chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has provided an update on Leeds’ plans, including their interest in Everton’s Beto and Norwich City’s Josh Sargent.

Beto enjoyed a strong end to the season under David Moyes at Goodison Park, and Sargent has proved his quality in the Championship for some time now.

And whilst a move for Beto might not be top of Leeds’ priorities, Sargent was earmarked as someone to ‘keep an eye on’.

Bailey explained: “Beto is a player who’s been discussed at Leeds, but I don’t think he’s top of their list by any stretch of the imagination, I’ll be honest.

“There’s a few names there, I think Josh Sargent is very high in their thinking, he’s a very good player, the way he’s progressed in the English game.

“Keep an eye on Leeds for him, he’s an exceptional player and they like him a lot.

“But Leeds are using the Red Bull resources, the 49ers. Leeds will be a real threat to some Premier League teams, especially those near the bottom.

“They’ve not been in the Premier League for a couple of years but their backroom, the way they’re sorted out, they’re a high-calibre club with the way they operate off the field, people shouldn’t forget that.

“In terms of who they sign, I think the number 10 will be Hamer or Buendia, I think it’ll be one of those two.

“It might be Hamer because he’ll end up being cheaper, but [Daniel] Farke likes Buendia an awful lot so that might go a long way. Does his injury record go against him? Possibly.

“I think he or Buendia will go there and that might see [Brendan] Aaronson move on actually.”

Marcelo Bielsa wanted to sign Emi Buendia at Leeds

In terms of Leeds’ interest in Buendia, Bayer Leverkusen reportedly had an option to buy the Aston Villa midfielder for £17m as part of their loan.

But if things had panned out differently back in 2020, Buendia might have already been a fan favourite at Elland Road.

According to , Marcelo Bielsa wanted to sign Buendia from Norwich all those years ago, a player who had a £25m asking price at the time.

Norwich had just been relegated and Bielsa was also said to be eyeing moves for talented attackers Emmanuel Dennis and Jonathan David.

Of course, Buendia ended up staying at Norwich for one more year before he eventually went on to sign for Villa.

But now Daniel Farke might get the chance to reunite with a player he once called ‘’ whilst he was helping him rise to prominence at Carrow Road.
