‘Not so good’: Bielsa admits that one Leeds player’s performances have been seriously inconsistent recently

Leeds face Manchester United this weekend looking to get back to winning ways after a poor few weeks of Premier League action for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

A humbling at Everton last week followed on from a 3-3 draw with Aston Villa, while the week prior, Newcastle had rolled into Elland Road and taken all three points. The Whites are still close to the bottom three and as we know, things can quickly shift in the Premier League and Bielsa’s men could find themselves in trouble.

One of the plus points – on paper anyway – in recent weeks has been the form of Daniel James. The former Manchester United winger has scored three in his last five games, including an impressive double at Villa. However, rather than sing the praises of James, Marcelo Bielsa has instead insisted that the Welsh winger needs to show more consistency.

“Like the team, he has had some good moments and some not so good. There was three games moreover than the results where the team showed a good level and in the last game that level dropped,” Bielsa told his press conference this morning when asked about James. ()

James signed for Leeds in the summer for . Since then, he has scored four times, 19 starts under Bielsa.

Last time out against United, Leeds were hammered 5-1. They’ll be hoping to avoid a similar effort this time around.

There aren’t many players as quick as Daniel James and Leeds will be hoping he can continue to hit the levels he’s shown he is capable of in recent weeks.

Bielsa, ever wanting more from his team, is right on the consistency basis. James does need to deliver more frequently and given his talent, he can certainly do so.

This weekend is a chance for Leeds and James to prove something to Manchester United. A big game, then, is on the cards at Elland Road.
