Leeds United’s persistent injury problems in defence should push Liam Lindsay to the top of their wish-list
Over the course of the season, Marcelo Bielsa has had to contend with a number of injury problems in defence.
Pontus Jansson, Liam Cooper, Luke Ayling, Barry Douglas and Gaetano Berardi have all spent periods out injured, forcing Bielsa to use other squad options.
The likes of Jamie Shackleton and Aapo Halme have been fast-tracked from the academy into the first-team to deal with these injury woes at times.
Given Leeds’ threadbare senior squad, Bielsa might need to bolster his squad options this summer, especially if they win promotion.
, Liam Lindsay is an option for Leeds this summer.
The Barnsley centre-back is enjoying a successful campaign with the Tykes in League One, where automatic promotion is the goal.
Lindsay has formed a solid defensive partnership with Ethan Pinnock and Barnsley have been tough to break down all season.
The Scottish defender, who joined from Partick Thistle, already has Championship experience under his belt and he gets better with each game he plays.
Whether the 23-year-old can immediately replace Jansson or Cooper as a starting centre-half is another question but he would be a solid squad addition.
Given Leeds’ persistent injury woes in defence, Lindsay would give them an extra body in that department.
