Leeds United’s perfect scenario for Jack Clarke might involve Garry Monk
Things have not gone to plan this season for Leeds United’s winger Jack Clarke. The talented attacker agreed to join Tottenham Hotspur in the summer in a deal worth £10 million.
He was then loaned back to Leeds United for the 2019-20 season but has so far been struggling for game-time at Elland Road. EFL rules dictate that no club can have more than five loanees in a matchday squad and with Leeds having six on their books, Clarke has been the one missing out.
The Mirror reported last week that Tottenham are now considering activating his recall clause and loaning him out elsewhere in January.
One team that would be perfect for Clarke is Sheffield Wednesday. Former Leeds United boss Garry Monk is currently the manager at Hillsborough. He will undoubtedly know about Clarke from his time at Elland Road. In fact, a then 16-year-old Clarke made his breakthrough into the Leeds under-23s whilst Monk was Leeds’ first-team boss.

Sheffield Wednesday would be a relatively local switch for the player. The Owls are also lacking in the wide positions and Clarke could be a good alternative to current options Adam Reach, Kadeem Harris, and Jacob Murphy.
As for Leeds United, it would also be a dream scenario. Leeds’ biggest fear about Clarke being recalled is that he comes back to haunt them in a meeting later this season.
However, Leeds will have played Wednesday twice by the 11th of January. If Clarke ends up heading elsewhere after that date, then he will hopefully thrive at their Yorkshire rivals and take points off of promotion rivals.
For Clarke, a move to work with Monk could be perfect for his development. As for Leeds, it might also end up benefitting them.
