Leeds United will hope for different result to Mohamed Elyounoussi pursuit

Leeds United are reportedly not giving up the hunt for Southampton forward Che Adams this month. The former Birmingham City attacker has struggled to find his best form since joining Southampton in a £15 million deal over the summer. 

Leeds, meanwhile, need a new recruit in attack. Eddie Nketiah was recently recalled to Arsenal, leaving Leeds short in the striking position. 

Adams has emerged as an ideal replacement. Considering his 22 goals in the Championship last season, three of which came against Leeds, it is easy to understand why. 

But it seems Leeds United could come up short. Saints’ boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, has informed the Southampton board that Adams is in his plans for the rest of the season. 

So it looks as though Leeds will miss out on yet another Southampton attacker. In the summer, the Whites were in the hunt for Norwegian forward Mohamed Elyounoussi. 

Like Adams, the 25-year-old struggled at St Mary’s after his £16 million switch from Basel and Leeds were hopeful of bringing him in on loan. in his homeland, Leeds made an approach for the player but could not afford his wages. 

In the end, Elyounoussi headed to Celtic where he showcased just why Leeds were keen. The Norwegian had scored seven goals in 13 games before suffering a foot injury in November. 

Leeds fans will no doubt hope they can get a deal done with Southampton on this occasion, as they are in desperate need of striking reinforcements.
