Leeds United target Alvyn Sanches now unlikely to join Celtic on transfer deadline day

Celtic are closing in on one midfield addition but the Bhoys look set to see one target slip through the net on transfer deadline.

The Bhoys have lost a key player in recent days with star midfielder Matt O’Riley joining Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League.

That kind of departure is always going to be a blow for Celtic and Brendan Rodgers is now looking to bolster his squad.

Celtic are now set to sign Arne Engels having agreed a deal to sign the Augsburg midfielder.

More midfield targets have been linked as well but Celtic seemingly won’t be signing LAFC star Mateusz Bogusz.

Celtic haven’t been able to agree a deal for Bogusz and it’s a similar story with another target too.

Celtic unlikely to sign Alvyn Sanches

Reports ahead of deadline day suggested that Celtic were back in for Lausanne-Sport talent Alvyn Sanches.

The 21-year-old has impressed in Switzerland and Celtic have looked into signing him this summer.

However, Celtic’s move for Sanches doesn’t appear to be advancing on transfer deadline day.

reported on Thursday night that Celtic’s opening £2.5million bid for Sanches had been rejected.

Lausanne-Sport did send a counter-offer back to Celtic – but there had been no progress on a deal.

Gordon added that Sanches was still expected to leave on transfer deadline day with other clubs keen to sign the Swiss Under-21 international.

Football Scotland now add that Celtic have walked away from Sanches having agreed a deal to sign the aforementioned Engels.

Celtic are believed to be happy with just the one midfield addition and won’t make another move for Sanches today.

Leeds United boost over Sanches

The news may well come as a boost to Leeds United in the final stages of the window.

Reports last week suggested that Leeds would like to bring in Sanches to bolster Daniel Farke’s squad.

This has been a difficult summer for Leeds with star trio Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter all leaving for the Premier League.

Sanches is on their radar and Celtic failing to strike a deal may just present a window of opportunity.

Leeds have already struck one deal to raid the Swiss market with Isaac Schmidt set to sign from St Gallen.

Perhaps Sanches – an attacking midfield player who scored five goals last season – could yet be another arrival from Switzerland as Leeds eye up late signings.
