Leeds United star Barry Douglas admits he was a Rangers fan growing up

that he supported Rangers during his childhood but did admit that when you begin playing for three points, your allegiance begins to change.

Douglas, 30, joined Leeds in 2018 for £3million () but has failed to reach the heights that saw him shine for Wolverhampton Wanderers during the 2017-18 campaign. During his 42 outings that season, Douglas laid on 15 assists.

He joined Leeds despite promotion at the end of the 2017-18 season, and has played just 39 times for the Whites under Marcelo Bielsa since. This season, Douglas has been in and out of the side, playing only 13 times.

Douglas gave an interview to Leeds-based podcast and Youtube channel Talking Shutt, and he discussed living five minutes from Ibrox as a child and supporting the Gers as he grew up.

“I grew up in Pollok which is literally five minutes from Ibrox so my family were predominantly Rangers fans. So I grew up being a Rangers fan. But once you start playing, and breaking into the senior ranks, it changes a bit,” Douglas said.

“You always have your club in your heart, but when you’re playing for points week in week out, it changes it a little bit.”

TBR’s view – Should Rangers try to sign Douglas, if Barisic leaves?

Certainly, Douglas’ future at Leeds could be in doubt. Borna Barisic is being linked with a move to some of England’s top clubs ahead of the summer – that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Barisic.

So, if Barisic leaves, Rangers will need a new left-back. Douglas should be at the top of Steven Gerrard’s shortlist, given that he is a Rangers supporter – and that he is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract at Elland Road.

With the former Wolves ace only playing 13 times this season, he will surely be made flexible this summer and that should place Rangers on red alert.
