Leeds United should rival Charlton Athletic for Marcus Maddison
Marcus Maddison is set to be on the move this month with Charlton seeing a bid accepted for the League One star A deal is far from complete, however, and Leeds United should prepare to pounce.
Peterborough owner Darragh MacAnthony tweeted yesterday that a bid had been accepted for Maddison. The trickster has a release clause in his contract, although the value of Charlton’s bid is unclear at this stage.
Leeds are on the lookout for new players and one of their targets might well be an attack-minded midfielder. Maddison is typically a number 10 and is worth a punt by the Whites.
The 26-year-old boasts an array of tricks and flicks, whilst his matchwinning qualities have often been evident at London Road.
Leeds were beaten 2-0 by Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road on Saturday to further highlight the need for new recruits. Patrick Bamford is the only senior striker, whilst the club is short of other creative options in the final third.
Maddison has a wicked left-foot and is capable of the sublime on his day. Okay, he hasn’t played in the Championship yet but he looks well-equipped to have an impact on the second tier.
Given the money that it would take to prise Maddison away from the Posh, it seems like a no-brainer for Leeds. They would get themselves an exciting player who fits the exact criteria for what they need to sign this month.

Maddison is the sort of player that could thrive under Marcelo Bielsa. At 26, he would be determined to make his shot at the Championship work, knowing he is still at the age where he could play in the Premier League.
The former non-league performer has scored 62 goals and registered 92 assists during his 248 appearances for Peterborough.
His quick feet and intelligence with the ball would make the energetic Maddison a quality addition to the current ranks.
Adam Forshaw has played as a number 10 this season and although he’s been alright, Maddison would represent a more exciting option.
Charlton’s bid might spark some other clubs into life and Leeds should certainly be one of them.
