With little to play for is 19-goal striker deserving of a Leeds chance in final league game

Leeds United’s hopes of automatic promotion have now extinguished thanks to Sunday’s draw with Aston Villa. The 1-1 draw at Elland Road ensured celebrations for Sheffield United who join Norwich in next season’s Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team can still join those two in the top flight but they will need to negotiate the lottery of the play-offs. The Whites travel to Ipswich on Sunday in what is really nothing more than a dead rubber.

Leeds haven’t been in great form of late and Bielsa will want to beat the basement boys in order to gain some momentum ahead of their play-off fixtures.

That doesn’t mean that the Leeds boss can’t rotate his pack somewhat this weekend. His side should defeat the Tractor Boys and might choose to rest some of his influential players for the play-offs.

Ryan Edmondson is a player who has been knocking on Bielsa’s door all season. The 17-year-old has 19 goals for Carlos Corberan’s Under-23 outfit and looks a star of the future.

He has made two cameo appearances for the first-team already but he will surely be craving more opportunities.

Sunday could represent the perfect opportunity for him to be given a game. Leeds haven’t guaranteed a third place, but they are certain to play the second leg of their play-off game at home.

Edmondson was left on the bench for the Under-23s semi-final with Coventry City last night and that could be a hint that Bielsa is considering him for the trip to Ipswich.

Against weak opposition, it could be the perfect chance to have a proper look at Edmondson. His form this season definitely warrants a chance and he will hope to grasp it with both hands when it is forthcoming.
