Leeds United round-up: Bounedjah signs extension, Roofe interest paused and Heckingbottom on Bielsa appointment

Bounedjah bust

Leeds United can forget about signing goal-machine Bagdad Bounedjah. The Algerian international has been linked with Leeds for some time now and made headlines for his incredible scoring form this season, scoring 45 times for club and country.

Leeds and Marseille, the other interested party, could have got him for £4.5 million.

But he has signed a contract extension at Al Sadd in Qatar. The new deal runs until 2024.

Roofe ‘backburner’

Leeds United can rest easy over reports Newcastle United were ready to tempt Kemar Roofe away from Elland Road.

Despite being keen on the player, now report any deal is on the ‘backburner’.

A potential takeover of Newcastle no longer looks likely before January and that means Roofe is no longer a viable option for the Magpies.

Roofe is Leeds’ current top-scorer this season.

Heck inception

Paul Heckingbottom has suggested that he may have helped Victor Orta to push for Marcelo Bielsa as the new Leeds manager.

, he stated he spoke to Orta about the style of play at Bielsa’s old Athletic Bilbao team and suggested he ‘probably put the idea’ in Orta’s head to go and get the Argentine in.
