Leeds United now in talks to sign striker compared to Miroslav Klose after Mateo Joseph decision

Leeds United look set to make a change in the striker department.

TBR Football understand Mateo Joseph has decided to leave Elland Road amid interest from Real Betis, Getafe, Girona and Strasbourg, meaning Daniel Farke will need to find a new forward.

Leeds United already have Joel Piroe to rely on, but depth is wanted with talks now taking place to sign Davie Selke on a free transfer.

Leeds United are discussing personal terms with Davie Selke

The now state that the Whites are exploring a deal for the 30-year-old.

Selke – who compare to Miroslav Klose on their official website – is set to become a free agent when his contract with Hamburger SV expires at the end of June, and many clubs are keen to secure his signature after a fine 2024/25 campaign.

The German scored 22 goals in 31 league games to fire Hamburger SV back into the Bundesliga, form which has alerted West Ham, Fulham, RB Leipzig and Watford along with Leeds United.

However, the Whites are the only side the Express claim to be actively discussing the move, with Leeds United chiefs said to be holding talks to discover Selke’s preference on personal terms.

Daniel Farke could sign Arnaud Kalimuendo if Davie Selke talks collapse

Should Leeds United – who could also sign Nick Pope – miss out on Selke, there is already another option on the table.

Arnaud Kalimuendo is free to leave Rennes this summer – a player Leeds United almost signed for £21m back in 2022 – with Club President Arnaud Pouille confirming the Frenchman can go.

TBR Football understand Leeds United remain keen on signing the 23-year-old, so if a free transfer for Selke does not materialise, those at Elland Road could alternatively pay for the Rennes No.9, who is valued at £25m.

Of course, that is far more expensive than a free transfer for the Schorndorf-born striker would be, but Farke cannot afford to be left short in the attacking department if Leeds United are to survive in the Premier League next season.
