Leeds United now in loan-to-buy talks with rapid £20m defender

Leeds United are reportedly in pursuit of defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window.

The Whites could certainly do with bringing in new recruits after allowing Luke Ayling and Djed Spence to leave this month.

In addition, Leeds defender Charlie Cresswell is attracting from other clubs amid a continued struggle for game time.

Now, has provided an exciting report involving Leeds and their pursuit of a Premier League defender.

Leeds are apparently exploring the possibility of an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy the Toffees player in the summer.

As well as the Whites, the likes of Newcastle United and AC Milan are apparently also looking at Godfrey.

The reported Leeds target is currently out of favour at Everton, who paid a reported for him in 2020.

He has made just three appearances this term, and just one in the league.

With Godfrey’s contract running for another 18 months, Everton are now reportedly looking to make a sale this window and bolster their funds.

Leeds United target Ben Godfrey is ‘a pleasure’ to manage

Godfrey would be an outstanding signing for Leeds. He’s very much Premier League level, so in the Championship he’d likely be a cheat code.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti thought highly of the reported Elland Road target when both were at Everton.

In 2021, the Italian coach told : “If Gareth (Southgate) is watching Ben Godfrey then he is right.

“Gareth doesn’t need advice from me but to see and watch Ben Godfrey at this moment, in this period, is a pleasure for any manager.

“He has surprised me because I didn’t know him so well [when he signed]. He was a signing from the club, from our scouts, and he has been really good.”

And in October 2022, Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi told the Premier League that Godfrey was the fastest player at the club.

“Anthony (Gordon) is very rapid, you know? He could be one of the quickest in the team,” said Iwobi.

“Ben is the quickest – facts. But Anthony will try and say it’s him.”
