Leif Davis shows Leeds United potential in victory over Salford City
Leeds United ensured a safe passage into round two of the EFL Cup last night, with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Salford City.
The Whites secured the victory thanks to goals from Eddie Nketiah, Gaetano Berardi and Mateusz Klich at the Peninsula Stadium.
Boss Marcelo Bielsa did ring a few changes against the club owned by members of the Manchester United class of ’92, although it was still a strong side which took to the pitch.
One name that was a perhaps a surprise inclusion in the starting eleven was young defender Leif Davis.

The 19-year-old signed from Morecambe in 2018 and typically operates at left-back. Last night, however, he lined-up alongside Berardi at the heart of the Leeds defence.
He didn’t disappoint and it was perhaps a timely performance by the youngster.
Having sold Pontus Jansson in the summer, Leeds look incredibly light on the ground when it comes to central defenders.
With Liam Cooper and on-loan Brighton defender Ben White seemingly the first-choice, Davis offered an indication against Salford that he is capable of acting as the understudy.

Given that he is actually a left-back, Davis can offer Bielsa the capabilities to cover for two positions and that also makes him a decent squad player.
Some Leeds fans were unconvinced when Bielsa chose not to sign a central defender prior to the transfer deadline.
They shouldn’t have worried, however, Davis is ready and looks set for a bright future in the game.
