‘What a player’: Leeds fans rave about 19-year-old after international call-up

Leeds United failed in their quest to reach the Premier League this season. A narrow 4-3 aggregate defeat against Derby County saw then fail to reach the Play-Off Final.

The Whites have since tied up the future of Marcelo Bielsa and there is a real sense that the club can win promotion next season under the world-renowned boss.

The future is certainly bright at Elland Road and Bielsa showed a keen willingness to utilise the club’s youth ranks last season.

It seems likely that he will continue with such a trend in 2019/20 and that will delight the club’s army of loyal supporters.

One of those youngsters who looks set for a bright future is Jamie Shackleton. The 19-year-old featured largely from the bench last season, showing versatility to play either at right-back or in the centre of midfield.

His cameo appearances didn’t go unnoticed, however, and yesterday the 19-year-old earned his first England Under-20 call-up.

The youngster will join up with the squad as they aim to win the prestigious tournament in Toulon. After getting the nod he took to Twitter to speak of his pride, saying:

Following the honour of earning England recognition, the Leeds faithful were quick to heap praise on their up and coming star.

We rounded up the best tweets in response to Shackleton’s post as he prepares to head off and join up with his international team-mates.
