Leeds United in talks with Man City over permanent Jack Harrison transfer
According to the , Leeds United are in active negotiations with Manchester City over the permanent transfer of on-loan forward Jack Harrison.
The Citizens-owned playmaker has spent the past three seasons at Elland Road on temporary deals, but it is now hoped that he will put pen to paper on July 1.
Harrison cannot sign permanent terms with Leeds until the new contract year begins, but it has always been the Whites’ plan to keep the 24-year-old in West Yorkshire long-term.
Leeds had agreed an option to buy Harrison in the loan deal struck with Man City for the 2019/20 season, but delayed the clause by 12 months to afford Marcelo Bielsa and Director of Football Victor Orta the chance to strengthen other areas of the Argentine’s squad.
The clause is said to be worth between £10m and £15million, and is set to be triggered as Bielsa feels Harrison is a great asset to the Elland Road outfit who will only get better.
Harrison played a key role in Leeds securing their promotion as Championship title winners in 19/20 and helped the Whites to secure a top-half finish in their first year back in the Premier League.
Only top-scorer Patrick Bamford (17) than Harrison (8), who trailed only Raphinha (9) for assists (8), with the winger instrumental in deploying Bielsa’s ideal brand of football from the left-hand channel.
Previous reports by have claimed Leeds’ clause to buy Harrison is worth £11m and that Man City are willing sellers as the forward has no future at the Etihad Stadium.
TBR’s view: Leeds bag a bargain in Harrison
Negotiations between Leeds and Man City for the permanent transfer of Harrison are likely to be pretty straight forward, with Orta and Bielsa informing the Citizens of their desire to sign a player Pep Guardiola’s side have to them for months.
Leeds will undoubtedly bag themselves a bargain by signing Harrison for the alleged £11m fee needed, given the impact the £15,000-per-week () winger has delivered in of English top-flight football.
Harrison has goals to his name against Liverpool and Leicester, plus a winner at Newcastle, while assisting strikes that directly led to wins over Everton and Sheffield United and a draw with Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.
He also created 10 big chances for Bielsa’s side to score – the 18th most across the division – from 59 key passes – the 17th most () – and should be expected to create even more next term with Bielsa backing a deal as he sees a bright future in the forward at Leeds.
