Leeds United duo send Instagram messages to Ronaldo Vieira after goal

Ronaldo Vieira scored his first goal since leaving Leeds United in the summer of 2018 to join Italian side Sampdoria, as he netted with a header for loan club Hellas Verona – and two Leeds players have reacted on Instagram.

Vieira, 22, came through the Leeds academy and alongside the likes of Phillips, Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper and other long-serving Whites stars – he clocked up 71 appearances in all competitions. However, he left in Marcelo Bielsa’s first summer.

Since his exit, Bielsa has stated that he did not want Vieira to leave but his departure was necessary for FFP. He has since played 44 times for Sampdoria over the course of two seasons, and is now on loan with Verona where he scored last time out.

Taking on Serie B side Venezia in the Coppa Italia, Verona were in danger of being knocked out by a side in a weaker division. The game went into extra-time after 2-2 draw, and Venezia took the lead. However, Vieira struck.

His header took the game to penalties in which Verona finally booked their place in the next round of the cup, with a 3-1 win on spot-kicks.  It was Vieira’s first goal since leaving Leeds for £7.7million () more than two years ago.

Kalvin Phillips and Tyler Roberts – the latter of whom played alongside Vieira for just half a season after joining in January 2018 – both responded to Vieira’s Instagram, underlining their shock at his goal. Vieira scored just twice in his 71 Leeds games.
