Leeds United appear lucky to have missed out on Arthur Cabral this summer
Leeds United were linked with a host of players over the summer. The Whites won promotion to the Premier League and with that came a long list of reported targets who might be on Victor Orta’s radar.
One such player was FC Basel striker Arthur Cabral.
Leeds were on the hunt for a striking alternative to Patrick Bamford and the Brazilian soon emerged as a target.
In August, Leeds had made a bid for the player worth an eventual £16.3 million.
However, any interest from Leeds was swiftly dropped due to an £18 million asking price and worries over his eligibility for a work permit.
In the end, Leeds snapped up Rodrigo from Valencia to ease their striking concerns. But have they missed on Cabral?
At first glance, the answer would be yes.

Cabral has scored six goals in 11 games this season which is a decent tally.
However, at closer look, Leeds fans can relax about missing out on Cabral.
The 22-year-old has not scored in his last three games and that has led to questions in the local media about his form this season.
points out that Cabral has not scored from open play since the start of November. They claim his recent form has been ‘noticeably inefficient’ and that is reflected in Basel’s below-par start to the season.
The usually dominant Swiss side have already lost four games in the league this season and were dumped out of Europe by CSKA Sofia in the Europa League qualifying round.
It is possible that Cabral would have been a good piece of business for Leeds but with Bamford out-scoring him and the local press becoming frustrated with his form, Leeds are likely not kicking themselves over missing out on Cabral.
