Leeds starlet Alfie McCalmont gets 8/10 rating for Northern Ireland display

Alfie McCalmont looks to be receiving plaudits from all angles after Northern Ireland beat Estonia on Sunday, with the Leeds United starlet receiving an 8/10 rating .

McCalmont was one of nine players brought into Ian Baraclough’s side in Tallinn. It came after they beat Lithuania in a World Cup qualifier.

And the visitors made it back to back wins. But the victory only came thanks to an incredible goal from Shane Ferguson.

With Ferguson winning his 50th cap, many of the plaudits are, understandably, coming his way.

But plenty have suggested that McCalmont was the real star of the show. Several supporters took to social media to laud his display.

Meanwhile, Baraclough himself suggested that McCalmont can make the game look easy.

And his thoughts appear to have been backed up in the player ratings in the Northern Irish media, with the Belfast Telegraph full of praise.

“If it wasn’t for Ferguson’s thunderbolt, he would be man of match in his first start. Fantastic debut; showed his class,” as he was given an 8/10 rating.

McCalmont needs to take Northern Ireland form into League One campaign as he looks to send message to Leeds

McCalmont has featured in four of Morecambe’s League One games so far this term. But he is arguably yet to really get going.

He showed at Oldham how good he can be. The Leeds loanee was outstanding, particularly in the latter stages of the campaign.

If he can recapture that form, the Whites will surely have to consider having another look at him upon his return.

It appears that he will bringing some momentum from the international break back with him to Morecambe.
