Leeds should start Leif Davis against QPR

Leeds United travel to Championship opposition QPR on Sunday for the third round of the FA Cup and it gives the manager Marcelo Bielsa the opportunity to rest some key first teamers.

The Whites supporters would surely love a cup run, but it can’t be a priority when your team is top of the Championship and pushing for a return to the Premier League.

Bielsa has to juggle a host of injuries and suspensions within his squad already this season, which is why it could be worth blooding some young talents in the cup in case they are needed in the league.

Defender Leif Davis should be handed a start against QPR to give him just his second ever senior appearance.

The 18-year-old academy graduate is the most natural understudy to Barry Douglas at left-back and may need to be called upon at some point in the second half of the season.

Bielsa handed Davis his first-team debut in a 3-2 win over Aston Villa in the league back in December and he coped well with the pressure.

But the raw teenager could do with more experience and a cup outing would do him the world of good next time he’s chucked in at the deep end in the league.
