Leeds should consider new loan move for Ryan Edmondson in January
There was a time when Ryan Edmondson looked to be some way clear when it came to identifying the most exciting prospect in Leeds United’s academy.
The former York City starlet took little time to move up to the under-23s after arriving as a 16-year-old. And he got the chance to make his senior debut shortly before his 17th birthday.

Had Whites fans been told when his first-team bow came that he would be heading into 2021 with just one more appearance for the club under his belt, it seems likely that they would not have believed it.
He struggled to force his way into the plans following Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival. So a loan move to Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen in the summer looked to be a good switch for him.

It looked set to provide the striker with an opportunity to prove exactly what he can do in senior football. And with the deal running until January, fans may have wondered whether he may have a chance to put himself on the periphery of the first-team plans upon his return.
However, with his initial loan coming towards an end, it now seems imperative that Leeds find another club for Edmondson when the window opens.
Edmondson struggling for minutes with Aberdeen
The teenager was an unused substitute at the weekend. In his previous two league appearances for the Dons, he was on the pitch for less than 15 minutes.
He may still be finding his feet following an ankle injury suffered earlier in the campaign. But with Derek McInnes also able to pick Curtis Main and Sam Cosgrove, it seems unlikely that he will get anything like the game-time he will need if his loan is extended.
It could be a pivotal moment in Edmondson’s career. Unfortunately, his time at Aberdeen has not seen him prove a point to Bielsa.
It is too soon to write him off. However, the next few months could be crucial for Edmondson.
Leeds have other attacking prospects coming through and impressing right now. So it has arguably become vital that the right decision is taken on Edmondson’s future.
Given his lack of game-time, letting him stay at Aberdeen looks a huge gamble. If Leeds look to send him elsewhere, perhaps it is a sign that the club still believe that he could have an incredibly bright future ahead.
