Leeds should consider move for free agent Ashley Williams
Leeds United have failed with their reported interest in Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter, as he’s linked up with Championship rivals Birmingham City.
The reported that there was interest from Leeds, Birmingham and Swansea City in the 21-year-old.
But Birmingham have now confirmed () that the England Under-21 captain has joined them on a season-long loan.
Leeds’ pursuit for the Chelsea defender has ended and it now leaves them with work still to do in the summer transfer market.
The Yorkshire club look short at centre-back ahead of the new campaign and adding another option should be a priority.
Liam Cooper, Gaetano Berardi and loanee Ben White appear to be the main senior options, which is not enough if Marcelo Bielsa’s squad want to achieve portion from the Championship.

Leeds should consider a move for experienced defender Ashley Williams, who is now a free agent after his contract expired this summer at Everton.
The 34-year-old spent last season in the Championship with Stoke City and Leeds should offer him the chance to join them at Elland Road.
He’s been on a downward spiral since the high of leading Wales to a European Championship semi-final in 2016, but he still has valuable experience and would add strong cover.
Williams would not necessarily walk into the team, but he definitely has pedigree and the Whites need strength in their defensive options.
