Leeds should consider 17-goal star released by Championship club – TBR View

After a superb 2020/21 season from Leeds United, the aim now has to be to consolidate in the Premier League. For that exact reason Leeds should target Andre Ayew.

Ambitious Whites supporters already want European football, but the second season back in the Premier League often catches teams out.

Leeds may just need one or two extra additions to a strong squad to re-energise them for next season.

One man they should be alerted to is Andre Ayew.

Championship club Swansea City confirmed on Friday that they have released Ayew.

The 31-year-old attacker has left the Liberty Stadium after three years at the Welsh club and is now available as a free agent.

Leeds must reignite previous interest for Andre Ayew

Despite Ayew’s release, that doesn’t mean he’s not a top player.

He was part of a Swansea side that were beaten in the play-off final to Brentford last month, but it was overall an excellent individual campaign from him.

The Ghanian centre-forward scored 17 goals in 47 games across all competition.

He’s a high-profile player with 91 Ghana caps, and he’d be a superb addition at Elland Road.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa previously worked with him at Marseille meaning the duo know each other well already, which would help the settling in period.

reported in December 2019 that Ayew was wanted by Leeds. Additionally, Bielsa was a driving force in the interest.

Leeds should view this summer as the perfect time to reignite a chase for his signature. He can play anywhere in the frontline, whether that be centrally or on the wing, and could be great competition for the attacking positions.
