Leeds set to make offer for defender who’s similar to John Stones

Leeds United know what it takes to thrive in the Premier League.

Indeed, while it feels like a long time ago now, under Marcelo Bielsa, the Whites finished ninth in the Premier League not too long ago.

In order to stay up, you need to have the right balance in your team, you need a great blend of defence and attack, and Leeds need signings in both areas this summer.

Leeds have plenty to spend this summer, and they’re already looking at bolstering their attack – Leeds have been linked to Davie Selke.

Speaking on Last Word on Spurs, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Leeds’ transfer plans, and he says that he expects the Yorkshire club to bid for a defender from the Bundesliga.

Leeds set to make Nico Elvedi bid

Jacobs was discussing Leeds’ summer transfer plans and their links to Ben Davies.

Leeds have been keen on Davies for a while, and according to Jacobs, the Whites could also be set to make a move for Nico Elvedi.

“I’d keep an eye also on Leeds United too.

“They definitely were interested in Davies when they were still in the Championship. Now we have to wait and see whether they move because targets can change due to promotion. Nico Elvedi is another name I hear for Leeds who can play left back or left centre back,” Jacobs said.

“That’s one I expect them to bid for in the coming days. So the Ben Davies situation is open, but it is fair to say that Tottenham are open to offers. And if you’re open to offers, then extending the contract only helps you protect the value and bring in the most money possible.”

Nico Elvedi has been compared to John Stones

Leeds fans would be forgiven for not knowing too much about Nico Elvedi. After all, Borussia Monchengladbach are hardly the most marketable team in Europe.

However, Elvedi does appear to be a top player, and he’s even been compared to John Stones by the Bundesliga website.

“Elvedi’s elegance on the ball despite his height and ability to play centrally or wide in a three- or four-man defence is reminiscent of Manchester City and England stalwart John Stones,” They wrote.

Meanwhile, Elvedi has plenty of top-level experience, playing tons of games in the Bundesliga and even the Champions League.

This is exactly the type of signing that can be a building block for Leeds in the Premier League, an experienced head at the back who knows exactly what he’s doing at the highest level.

This is a big window for Leeds, and a bid for Elvedi could be a great way to kickstart things.
