Virgil Van Dijk was one of several players turned down by Massimo Cellino after they were recommended to him, .

Cellino told Hockaday he had the final say on transfers when the two worked together at Leeds.

But Hockaday has now revealed that pleas for Liverpool star Van Dijk, as well as Wolves skipper Conor Coady and Watford duo Craig Cathcart and Andre Gray, were ignored.

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani has praised the fans and remains defiant despite a damaging loss against Queens Park Rangers which dented their title hopes.

The Whites were beaten 1-0 by QPR at Loftus Road with Luke Freeman’s goal ending seven straight losses for the home side.

Mallik Wilks scoops man of the match award

Doncaster Rovers striker Mallik Wilks scooped the club’s man of the match award in yesterday’s League One clash with Shrewsbury Town, .

The 20-year-old is on loan from Leeds but could not prevent Doncaster from losing 2-0 to Shrewsbury.

Nonetheless, Wilks was still recognised as man of the match by the fans, earning an impressive 58 per cent of the vote.
