Leeds reportedly want midfielder that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer raved about after signing

Leeds United are reportedly interested in raiding Norwegian giants Molde FK for midfielder Fredrik Aursnes for just £5million this summer – and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s previous comments should excite Whites supporters.

Aursnes, 24, has clocked up 270 appearances at senior level already in his short career – 148 of which came after Solskjaer signed the midfielder back in January 2016. Despite that, he is yet to earn his first Norway cap.

Despite that, Leeds want to sign Aursnes and bring him to the Premier League – as he continues to impress with 18 goals and 22 assists in his 148 appearances at Molde. He is rated at just £5million.

Leeds are renowned for their usage of Norwegian midfielders – with Eirik Bakke a crucial part of the club’s Champions League exploits in the naughties. Solskjaer’s previous comments in 2016 will excite Leeds fans.

“I was aware of the potential of Fredrik, but I know that it can take some time before young players are in full bloom,” Solskjaer said of Aursnes after he made his debut against Sevilla in the Europa League,

But Fredrik took it right away. It took me three minutes in his debut to figure it out, when he knocked down Banega in a duel there. I am sure that Fredrik – if he continues the development – will be an a national team player.”

TBR’s view – Solskjaer’s comments make £5m Aursnes a bargain

Leeds need cover in the middle of the park, whether that be back-up for Kalvin Phillips or a partner for Polish mainstay Mateusz Klich. Aursnes can play in both roles and at £5million, he is a low-risk option.

But he could also be an inspired signing and Solskjaer’s previous comments prove as much. Norway are renowned for their midfielders – with Sander Berge impressing at Sheffield United – he can be the next example.
