Leeds reportedly want midfielder Neil Warnock has challenged to emulate Mason Mount
Leeds United are one of four Premier League clubs reportedly interested in signing Middlesbrough midfielder Marcus Tavernier this month – a player that Neil Warnock has raved about, and has challenged to emulate Chelsea’s Mason Mount.
Tavernier, 21, has continued to impress this season, clocking up his 100th appearance for Warnock’s Boro over the weekend during an FA Cup clash against Brentford. He has scored three goals and created three more in 25 games this season.
Leeds, Everton, Wolves and Leicester are all keeping tabs on Tavernier – though Middlesbrough, who are fighting to finish in the top six, are desperate to keep the midfielder who has shown versatility this season.
Playing on either flank, in the middle or as a 10 – 15-time England Under-20 ace Tavernier has impressed Warnock and the ex-Leeds boss has challenged his player to on a similar run of form as Mount, who has broken into the Chelsea and England side.

“I think he’s got a few strings to his bow if I’m honest,” . “I looked at Mason Mount the other night and how he’s come on in 12 months.
“There’s no reason why Tav can’t do that in the next 12 months if he motivates himself and listens. He’s got some great attributes and good habits. All being well we can put him in the right direction and he can become a very good player.
TBR’s view – A player with enormous potential
Certainly, he has the promise to be a proper player for Leeds United, or for any other Premier League club. But if Leeds sign Tavernier with a view to expecting an instant impact in the top tier, they would be mistaken.
Leeds do need a player right now that is going to make an impact in midfield. Rodrigo De Paul was linked in the summer, while Michael Cuisance failed a medical. Tavernier is a top player and would be a good addition, but Leeds need a player ready now.
