Leeds reportedly want midfielder in January, Bielsa once gutted to have sold
Leeds United could reportedly re-sign Ronaldo Vieira in the January window from Serie A side Sampdoria. Back in 2018, after his Elland Road exit, Andrea Radrizzani admitted his exit had left Marcelo Bielsa “unhappy”.
Vieira, 23, has struggled with injuries ever since leaving Leeds to joining Sampdoria. The England Under-21 star has been sidelined since march with a knee problem, only playing 49 times since his Leeds exit in 2018.
Indeed, 44 of those have come for Sampdoria – following his move to the Serie A side. He has also spent time on loan at Hellas Verona, where he played five times. He is yet to play this season for Sampdoria.
Vieira will be allowed to leave the club in January, as he returns to fitness. It is believed a fee of just £4.25million is required – and Leeds are said to be ‘trying to convince’ him to return.

Speaking about Vieira’s exit in 2018, Leeds owner Radrizzani explained how he had to sell players in order to bring some in. He also discussed how Vieira’s £7.7million () exit had annoyed the current Leeds gaffer.
“To sustain a club in this league we need to sell one or two players each year. We’ve invested a lot and it’s not enough to break even, so we had to manage the club and look at the future, not just today.
“Marcelo understands,” “Of course he’s not happy, he wished to have all his best players – but he understands.”
Leeds eye Vieira: Surely Bielsa will want him back if there is a chance?
Given Bielsa’s stance on his exit, he will clearly be open to the return of Vieira in January. That is, despite Vieira’s injury woes and lack of development since he left Elland Road for Italian football.
At the moment, Leeds do need more depth in the middle of the park. Someone energetic, someone powerful, someone with an eye for a pass, someone to replace Kalvin Phillips. Vieira might just be ideal.
