Leeds reportedly want Arsenal player that Hasselbaink labelled ‘absolutely brilliant’
Leeds United are one of four Premier League clubs looking to sign Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles this summer after an impressive loan stint at West Brom – and Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink is a big fan of the player.
Maitland-Niles, 23, left Arsenal in January on loan to join West Brom after telling Sam Allardyce he wanted to play in central midfield. At Arsenal, he had been playing on either side of the defence, rather than midfield.
The England international impressed for Sam Allardyce’s side in their fight against relegation, but he now returns to Arsenal ahead of an intriguing summer. Does he get the chance to play for Arsenal in midfield?
Or will he be sold? Arsenal want £20million, while Leeds, Everton, Southampton and Man United are all keen. Back in February, Hasselbaink labelled him “brilliant” but questioned his position.

“It’s interesting what he says, that he wants to play in his favourite position, central midfield. I don’t think that is his best position,” Hasselbaink told
“If it was his best position, he would have been playing in that position. I am seen him in different positions, and he has been absolutely brilliant, and I think off the right, off the left, that is his position.”
TBR’s view – A younger Stuart Dallas?
When it comes to versatile Premier League players, not many beat Dallas. The Northern Ireland man is playing on the right flank – but has played right-back, left-back, left-wing, defensive midfield and attacking midfield.
While Dallas is showing no signs of slowing down, he is now 30 and even if he is not an immediate replacement for him – Maitland-Niles boasts the same qualities as Dallas. Young, English and versatile, it is a no-brainer for Leeds.
