Leeds reportedly closing in on exciting deadline-day deal for absolutely ‘electric’ player

Leeds United are reportedly closing in on the deadline-day signing of Bamba Dieng.

Earlier this afternoon, Fabrizio Romano said “here we go” on the Marseille striker coming to Elland Road.

He claimed that Dieng to Leeds is “almost done” on a €10m (£8.6m) package bid.

Later on in the afternoon, Andrea Radrizzani urged the Leeds fanbase to “welcome Dieng” at Elland Road.

And has reported that Dieng is now due to head to Leeds for a medical ahead of putting pen to paper on a long-term contract.

Admittedly, Dieng to Leeds is not over the line just yet.

La Provence – via – has reported that Nice are making a last-minute bid to beat Leeds to Dieng.

Apparently, the 22-year-old had preferred a move to Nice just a few days ago before interest from Lorient and now Leeds today.

So we’ll see how things go – but the Elland Road outfit seems to be on the right track for his signature.

Leeds target Dieng – factfile

Dieng would be a great shout for Leeds, a young, extremely talented international striker at a bargain price.

The Senegal international – an Africa Cup of Nations winner – had an encouraging breakthrough season last year.

Dieng began his career with Diambars in the Senegal Premier League before joining Marseille in 2020.

He made just five appearances in 2020-21, before becoming a regular in 2021-22.

The ‘skilful’ forward scored seven goals in just 11 league starts, and regularly featured off the bench.

Former Liverpool and Senegal forward El Hadji Diouf has compared Dieng to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba ().

Drogba disagreed, saying it was a little early for comparisons.

Nonetheless, he still praised Dieng, saying “when I see his performances, I say to myself that he has pep and he’s skilful in front of goal”.

And GFFN wrote that, ‘at 5’8 with electric pace, Dieng’s style can feel more reminiscent of fellow Senegalese forward Sadio Mane’.
