Leeds receive boost from Mick McCarthy regarding Patrick Bamford

🐭 as saying that Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has agreed to switch his allegiance to the Republic of Ireland – but will not play for them this month.

🅰The 25-year-old remains uncapped by England and is eligible to play for Ireland. McCarthy’s side are lacking in strikers, and Bamford has been targeted as a man to plug a whole for the Boys in Green.

꧂The two have exchanged text messages, and McCarthy confirmed he had spoken to Bamford after Leeds’ 4-0 win over West Brom – in which Bamford scored twice.

▨But the Ireland boss stated that although Bamford has said he wants to play for Ireland, he will not be available for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Georgia later this month which will be a boost for Leeds.

ꦆ“My last contact with him was on Saturday morning. They won Friday night,” . “I congratulated him on his goals. The one-two at the edge of the box was a sublime finish.

𓂃“I asked him if he still wanted to continue to join us and he said ‘yes’. I’m hoping to meet him. I haven’t given up on it at all. If he does (join Ireland), it’s going to be June now because we’re not going to get it for these games.”

TBR’s view

♊In the midst of a heated promotion battle for the top two places, Leeds need all of their big-hitters fit. With six goals in his 13 appearances this season, Bamford is crucial to Leeds. Especially with Kemar Roofe injured.

🌌So, to hear that Bamford will not be joining Ireland in March and risking injury – as well as clocking up plenty of air miles to Gibraltar and back – is a big boost for the promotion run in.

𓆉Fans will be delighted. Yes, let him join Ireland, but not until Leeds have given their all in Marcelo Bielsa’s bid to gain promotion.
