Leeds player posts cryptic message on Instagram story after Bielsa’s Monday snub
Kiko Casilla has posted a cryptic message on his Instagram story after being left out of the matchday squad that travelled to London to face West Ham on Monday – instead, being replaced by Italian rookie Elia Caprile for the 2-0 defeat.
Other than an ankle injury that saw him miss three of the first four Premier League games, 33-year-old Casilla has been included in every single matchday squad – even playing in the 1-0 defeat to Brighton after Illan Meslier tested positive.
But for a reason yet to be made public, Casilla was left out of the side on Monday and Caprile – who has impressed for Mark Jackson’s Under-23 side this season – was included on the bench in place of the Spain international.
Now, the three-time Champions League winner – who is one of the club’s earners on £32,000 a week () – has retaliated on Instagram, after Bielsa told press following the loss that he was not injured. He even hinted at leaving the club.
His post is translated as: “I’m slow to leave, because I believe in change. I wait, I endure, but one day I get tired. Without saying anything, I leave, and leave everything. Once I get tired, I will not come back. I give everything before leaving.”
TBR’s view – Casilla’s time at Elland Road is up
But the issue surrounding his future is that by the time the summer arrives, Casilla will still have two more seasons left to run on his Elland Road contract – after moving to Leeds in January 2019 on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
Leeds might have to bite the bullet and allow the goalkeeper to leave the club as a normal transfer, but without requesting a fee. Spanish clubs are likely to take a look at Casilla and have been linked in the recent past. Monday’s snub could be the last straw.
