Leeds must give player chance to come back and haunt Arsenal after 2020 sale

Leeds United will be looking to build on the momentum they gained at the weekend when they face Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have gone further in the competition than they have ever been before under his leadership.

With that in mind, they may be wondering how far they can still go. And with that, some may be hoping that Bielsa names a strong team at the Emirates.

However, Leeds have a massive game with Norwich this weekend. The Whites are outside the bottom three. But given the Canaries’ problems, not winning on Sunday would feel like a missed opportunity.

So changes are surely likely on Tuesday. And with that, Leeds may perhaps present one player with the chance to potentially come back and haunt the Gunners.

It would have surprised many associated with Arsenal when the club decided to sell Sam Greenwood to Leeds in 2020.

He had previously scored 15 goals in 39 under-18 games for Arsenal. And he has kicked on since moving to Elland Road.

Greenwood must be in contention to start for Leeds against Arsenal

Greenwood has shown that he can play in a number of roles. He plays up front, as a number 10 or in central midfield for Mark Jackson’s side.

That versatility certainly increases the likelihood of Greenwood featuring on Tuesday.

It must also be noted that Greenwood is potentially the best free-kick taker in the Leeds squad right now, based on some of his under-23 goals last season.

And with many talking about Joe Gelhardt and Crysencio Summerville in recent weeks, surely Greenwood would love nothing more than to stake his own claim for a Premier League debut – particularly against the club he left just last year.
