Leeds must aim for better than Macauley Bonne in transfer targets

Marcelo Bielsa has brought renewed ambition and desire to Leeds United in their quest for a return to the Premier League, bringing high quality football that is getting results to Elland Road, but the club must up their game with their transfer targets if reports are to be believed.

say that the club are leading the race between four Championship outfits as they attempt to sign Macauley Bonne from National League side Leyton Orient.

The 23-year-old has scored 14 goals this season already and has earned a call-up to the Zimbabwe national team, catching the eye with his prolific displays at non-league level.

After coming through the ranks at Ipswich, Norwich and Colchester, he made his professional debut for the Ewes and also spent time on loan at Lincoln City and Woking before joining the Os.

However, Leeds must aim higher. The likes of Kemar Roofe, Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts have all proven themselves at a high level and scored regularly, something which is uncertain if Leeds splash the cash on an unproven talent like Bonne.

If the Whites are to make the step up to the Premier League then they must look to players of that level, rather than gamble on non-league talents which could be a success, but equally may backfire.
