Leeds loaning out Leif Davis surely drops hint concerning Barry Douglas

One of the few players within Leeds United’s squad who appears to have a question mark hanging over their future is Barry Douglas, that Celtic want the left-back.

Douglas struggled for game-time last season. And it remains to be seen whether Leeds will show any interest in letting the 30-year-old leave this summer should the Hoops confirm their admiration with a bid.

But perhaps, a potential hint concerning Douglas’s future could have come from another report in recent days surrounding one of his teammates.

that Leif Davis could leave Leeds on loan this summer. The youngster is attracting attention from Stoke City and Portsmouth.

It was suggested that the Potters were Leeds’s preferred option. That would certainly hint that the Elland Road faithful would be wise to expect Davis to leave temporarily during this window.

Should Davis leave on loan, it is difficult to see Marcelo Bielsa letting Douglas also go.

Neither Stuart Dallas or Gjanni Alioski are natural left-backs, so it would be a risk to let the two linked-away players leave.

Of course, a new signing could yet come in. And Bielsa may perhaps be willing to let Douglas make his own decision on his future should Celtic make an acceptable bid.

But as things stand, it is arguably difficult to see Douglas leave if Leeds already have plans to let Davis leave on loan.
