Leeds linked with Rangers star that McAllister and Heckingbottom have raved about
Leeds United are reportedly considering a shock move to sign Rangers attacker Ryan Kent this summer after failing to land the winger last summer – and both Gary McAllister and Paul Heckingbottom have praised him in the past.
Kent, 23, is now in his this season at Rangers – clocking up 80 appearances in all competitions for the Gers since he initially joined on loan in 2018-19. He has scored 16 goals in that time, and created 13 more.
Following his first season at Rangers on loan, Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds tried to bring him to Elland Road from Liverpool – he cost Rangers £7million to sign permanently in 2019.
Just a season on from that permanent Ibrox move, he could be heading back down south. That is because newly-promoted Leeds, , are preparing a £10million offer and hope to strike a deal this week.
Looking at his stats, Leeds fans may be concerned that Kent has little effect in the final third. But recent comments from Rangers no.2 McAllister and ex-Leeds boss Heckingbottom – who managed Kent at Barnsley – will excite fans.
last summer: “You’re now seeing a player who has loads of potential and can still improve, but who has become a man. We see a player who is pretty robust. He doesn’t miss much training.”
in March 2019 that Kent was good, on and off the pitch: “He’s a really good kid. Good ability but as a lad as well. He’s a quiet boy, just loves his football but he has got a quirky personality.”
Putting aside the stats, Leeds could do with a winger like Kent. Bielsa has already shown that it is not all about the goals and assists, making Jack Harrison a mainstay of the starting XI – despite scoring just four times in 2018-19.
Kent could be a project and having already started that project at Rangers, he is beginning to show a decent return. In the Premier League at Elland Road, Kent could take his project to the next level.
