Leeds-linked Andre Ayew has commented on his future amid potential Elland Road move
Leeds United have been linked with an ambitious move for Swansea City attacker Andre Ayew which would see the Ghanaian and Marcelo Bielsa for a reunion at Elland Road – but Ayew stated earlier this week he is happy in Wales.
that Leeds want the 30-year-old to boost their push for promotion to the Premier League. Ayew, who returned to Swansea in the summer after a loan at Fenerbahce, has scored nine goals in all competitions this term.
The 86-time Ghana international has three goals in two Championship games after a brace against Middlesbrough last time out. Leeds have caught wind, and want him to work under Bielsa for a second time – after doing so at Marseille.
Swansea’s £18million signing is said to be keen on returning to the Premier League soon, and a move to Leeds gives him a better chance of doing that. But earlier in the week, before the Leeds report, Ayew had this to say on his future.
“I’m not thinking at all about that,” , when asked about a potential January exit. “I’m here, I’m 100% here just thinking about the next game, that’s Luton. That’s speculation, that’s what people are going to say.
“I’m just happy, playing my football, enjoying with the lads. We want to do something great so we need to keep working and later we will see [what happens].”
TBR’s view – The issues surrounding a Leeds move for Ayew
Firstly, Financial Fairplay will impact Leeds. They are said to be on the border, and may have to sell in order to bring Ayew to Elland Road. His big wages will also play a huge impact, and he will have to take a pay cut to join Leeds.
That is not all. Given he is on a contract until the summer of 2021, Ayew will require a transfer fee and with it being a mid-season window, Swansea are unlikely to want to sell when they have a chance of reaching the play-offs.
Finally, Swansea’s manager Steve Cooper has heaped huge praise on Ayew. He has stated the Ghana captain is excellent both on and off the pitch, and that affinity will be hard to break. The chance to work under Bielsa again, though, may prove tantalising.
